Here is the line-up for tonight's game via Peter Abraham:
Damon DH
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Giambi 1B
Cano 2B
Cabrera CF
Moeller C
Gardner LF
Rasner RHP
A few things to note:
Moeller gets the nod behind the plate tonight. It's been quite a while since we have seen him get a start, but something tells me that we will be seeing a lot more of him in the weeks and possibly months to come. Moeller started off red-hot for the Yankees, but has since cooled way off and has seemed to remember that he is in fact Chad Moeller.
This is a big start for Rasner. Rasner has not pitched well as of late and he is definitely a candidate to get bounced from the rotation should the Yankees make a move (hope not) or bring up a guy from their minor league stable (hope so). If Rasner does not pitch well tonight expect him to be booted from the rotation. One thing Rasner does have going for him is that he has pitched best when Moeller has played. That could just be a statistical anomaly, but who can say for sure.
Two things to keep up: Cano and Melky have been playing well since the break and hopefully they keep their roll going. The bullpen has also performed extremely well for the Yankees and that is going to be key tonight if Rasner struggles and Girardi has to go to the pen early. Much of how the rest of the season goes for the Yankees depends on the play of these elements.
