On my lunch hour..

Just eating lunch and decided to make a few comments about the game last night and the current state of the Yankees:

Last night's game was awful. The Yankees were even worse then the final score indicated and the offense was anemic against Guthrie. The Yankees never seem to be able to handle the Orioles as well as they should and this is a problem because at this point in the season you need to win every game you can, especially when the two teams you are ahead of both lose. Moose, from the start, had absolutely nothing last night. He was due for a game like this and here's hoping that this isn't a sign of his miraculous season slowing down a little bit. I hate to sound pessimistic, but Moose is up there in age, has had injury problems, and has had a history of slowing down considerably as the season wore on in recent years. However, I also want to note that he has been shellacked by the Orioles this year so it's reasonable to say this is just a blip for him.

I do not think the Yankees should make any trades that include Washburn, Texiera, or any other player who they are going to have to overpay for. If they want to go out and get a better back-up catcher, or someone that can evenly split time with Molina that is fine. Texiera's asking price is wayyy too high to consider and the situation with Posada impacts the first base position for a long time coming. Nothing is certain about Posada's injury post-surgery and it looks like he will be more of a DH/first basemen for the remainder of his contract. Washburn I think is just garbage and we should not give up anything more then Kei Igawa, also garbage, for him. Anything other then that is just not feasible.

Tonight is a big game for the Yankees and they have to bounce back with a solid showing. Hopefully the Red Sox and Rays both lose again and we can actually pick up some games on them.
