Today the Yankees made a big move. They traded away Kyle Farnsworth for Pudge Rodriguez straight up. I think this is a great move. The Yanks get a Hall of Fame catcher who is hitting .295 this season, who also is a stud defensively. Jose Molina is only hitting .226 and is obviously wearing down after being forced to play everyday.
Kyle Farnsworth was clearly having his best season in pinstripes, but it is very tough to trust him in big spots because he rarely ever does well. He is going to help the Tigers bullpen acting as a bridge from the starters to closer Todd Jones. This is going to be Kyle's second stint in the Motor City, he pitched there for half of 2005 before getting traded to the Atlanta Braves.
Who will take Farnsworth's spot in the bullpen? Brian Bruney is almost ready to come off the Disabled List after suffering a Lisfranc injury. Mark Melancon was just promoted to Triple-A, so he might get considered in the near future. Scott Strickland is also a possibility for a call up with his 2.19 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, impressive numbers.
