Great win for the Yankees last night. Good to see Moose get win #12 because time is running out for him to get the elusive 20 win season and without trying to jinx him, this could be his year. Sexson had a hit and an rbi in his Yankee debut, but admittedly he did not look very good in his other at bats, although he did work a walk. I was very happy to see Cano have a big game last night. Much has been said about him being a notoriously slow starter and that he always picks it up big time in the second half. Hopefully this type of a start to the second half with give him a springboard into a big final 66 games.
Today is game 2 of this series vs the Athletics. The Yankees need to continue winning and get on a roll here. It will be interesting to see if guys like Abreu, Cano, and A-Rod continue what they did last night into today and on into the rest of the season...
Here is the line-up per Peter Abraham:
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Giambi DH
Posada C
Cano 2B
Betemit 1B
Cabrera CF
Gardner LF
Chamberlain RHP
So a few things to notice: Sexson is out today and Betemit gets the nod at first base. Jeter is in the lead-off spot again and personally I like that because he is more consistent getting on base then Melky and Gardner even with his down year thus far. With Melky and Gardner both in the outfield and Betemit at first base all at the bottom of the line-up we have a particularly weak bottom 3 in the line-up today. Hopefully they all bring something to the table. Posada is behind the dish today and it will be interesting to see how the A's handle that situation. The A's famously do not like to run a lot keeping in line with the Billy Beane's Moneyball way of doing things, but might they change their view to try to test Posada's questionable right shoulder??
